http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?303014-James-Lang-London-577-ExpressJust bought this from an old friend who's health has failed. He didn't want a stranger to have it.
The 26" barrels are inscribed James Lang 18 Brook St New Bond St London. I'm guessing it was made in Birmingham and sold by Lang. Not a "BEST" gun but still very nice. It's chambered in 577 and uses the 3" case and is marked (577 EXPRESS) plus the usual proof marks. James Lang was a son of well known London gun maker Joseph Lang Sr. and had his own shop for a few years during the 1880's but merged with his brother Joseph's business in 1887. With the short 26" barrels and the 577 EXPRESS markings I'm guessing it was made in the mid to late 1880's. I got loaded ammunition, dies, brass, bullet mould and some Hawk jacketed bullets with it.

https://www.gunsinternational.com/guns-f...un_id=101103049Hammerless Sidelocks - Built in 1897 this stunningly beautiful sidelock is in wonderful condition. This gun has been restored to near new condition to the highest of standards.
This shotgun shows near 100% case color and near 100% barrel black and wood finish. The barrel sets are quite versatile in their choke combinations with an open choked set for close in work like for Quail and skeet and the number 2 set with tight chokes for those late season south Dakota roosters or sporting clays. Note the light weight, 6 lbs. 6 oz!
* The case colors were done by the best in the world, St. Ledger in the UK. *** Note: To see this gun with high resolution photos and a zoom-in feature, go to the vintagedoubles main site and search for the gun ID: 3333 or browse the main site to see our full gun collection.

https://www.gunsinternational.com/guns-f...un_id=100965635t's a Best Quality Sidelock Hammer Bar In Wood Pigeon Gun made by James Lang in 1891. James Lang sold his interest in Joseph Lang and Sons and started on his own for a brief period in the early 1880s. I don't think that he made more than a couple of hundred guns but the few that I have seen have all been very nice. This gun is no exception. It has original 30 inch barrels with a high pigeon rib. The hammers on the lgun disappear from the line of sight when they are cocked. I purchased the gun from Australia and the stock was broken and had two steel side bolsters holding it together. I was planning to have it restocked but the wood was just too nice. I sent it to my favorite stocker and he was able to bring it back to life. It took two pieces of maple, a lot of fiberglass, and recheckering but is now very strong and the wood is absolutely beautiful. I was also able to find a period Westley Richards hammer gun case that was lovingly refurbished by a gentleman in England that is the perfect compliment to the gun. At about 7 lbs 8 ounces it balances like a much lighter gun and is a joy to shoot!
