Only way to know is to shoot the gun and see if you have the same 6" problem. you very well may not. If you do you could look at getting a custom bored choke tube, eccentric, made to correct the problem. I knew one fellow who put a slightly oversized front sight on his gun and then removed a little off one side to move the center of the pattern over. It could be noticed if you sighted down the rib like a rifle but never if you mounted the gun and just shot it. His solution cost less than five bucks and fixed his problem.

Dare I mention the heresy of filing the muzzle to move the pattern ?
Or is that against the religion of sOme here.

Tim it would be nice to know what entry level shotgun we're talking about.

Tim you might want to ask the guy what season its shot 6 inches off.

It could be as we say in the South "rightly seasoned".

When I talked to Dean about this problem with a gun, a couple years ago, that was 8" off, he said that honing the choke to move one that much at 20 yards was "asking a lot", and probably couldn't be done. Six inches at 25 may be doable, but it's still a lot.

What distance it was determined to be 6" off is important. Six inches off at 16 yards is a lot bigger problem than that much at 35. Usually the amount that a barrel patterns out of regulation will increase as the distance to the target does, but it is "disguised" because the pattern enlarges enough for the aiming point to still be hit, but on the edge of the pattern. When you determine the center of the pattern you can still see it is off, tho'.

Joe, thanks for mentioning FAIR guns. I am still upset about their customer service or the lack thereof. They make you jump through hoops like taking a picture of the gun so they can identify it so you will give up. Then they have their standard response which is take a walk.

Can you leave the frogs out for a while? This is an interesting topic to me.

Best,
Milt

I noticed the last couple of days the Sarvis trees are blooming in my area, they're always about the first wild things to bloom. Will be followed soon by the Redbuds & then Dogwood. Used to have a roadside that was loaded with Redbud where the road was cut into the side of the hill, but an Ice Storm back in '98 wiped them out. A few are finally coming back, but seriously doubt they'll ever again what they once were. Was a whole hillside lined in red, so beautiful in the morning when the sun was hitting them.
