" .......Sarvis trees"

Serviceberry?

The plums, pears and bridal veil are all blooming down here. Pine trees are pollinating. But ........ next Wednesday night it is forecast to go to 25 degrees. Bad news. It won't fool the old pecan trees though. They're always the last to put out.

Stan;
I think Sarvis or Service is used interchangeably. Anyway, here's a picture I found on the web, does this look like your Serviceberry tree.

The Mayhaws I planted around my backyard fishpond are the first natives to bloom around here. They'll be ready to harvest around the first of May.

In Saskatchewan one summer on a fishing trip I found a stretch of untilled prairie. The Saskatoon berries were ripe and the prairie lilies were in bloom. I believe I'm right to say the Serviceberry is the same plant as the Saskatoon berry...Geo

Taste like blueberries but I'm told they're a Holly.

Service berries up here in the north, are a freeze tolerant variety of chokecherries.
They come from Alberta. Small pink flowers, purple leaves, small hard fruits.

Out there doing it best I can.

We don't have them down here, I don't think. I had never heard of the name you mentioned so I looked to see what it might be. Just trying to learn something new.

Serviceberry is being used a lot as foundation planting for new commercial building around here. Now and then I notice berries on them and pick a bag full to eat...Geo
