Looking to buy a Fox 20 GA or smaller for upland hunting. Looking for a hunting gun not a gun for a showcase. Budget open. Have Fox book but confused. Should I buy a used original gun - which one - or a Galazan gun new or used? Help greatly appreciated.

If budget really open, Order a new Galazan Fox, built to fit. A no brainer.

If this is really a hunting gun and not for any show, buy the lowest grade gun that has been carried the most and shot the least that you can find in the time allotted for the search. Sometimes you will find a gun with good finish restoration for cheap, also.

I think I would agree with Alder. If the cost is really open I'd get a new one from Galazan. It would be perfect and new without ony of the old gun concerns and it would be made to fit you. At the same time an old Sterlingworth will be fine for what you describe. While some here will drool over a fine Sterlingworth they are a bit plain. For some that is the beauty of them. I would buy one in good condition and restore as needed to make it last and fit well without problems in the field if that is your choice. If you buy a graded original you will pay some a big bucks for it as well and if you need to restock or reblue it the purists here will only want to give you half what you paid because it's no longer original. The Galazan guns seen to hold their value fairly well. I haven't seen any $20K guns for half because they are used.

if the money is no object, buy a c grade, get it restocked to your dimensions, then get a nice one from galazen for those "special" hunts..

Look for an all-original Philly AH Fox AE in whatever set-up you like.

Seems like quite a few people have the same idea. Buy now, Prices are continuing uowards on original Fox guns. BTW, if you buy an original Fox, you'll have to settle for 20 gauge - nothing smaller was built.

Mr. Brewster, I actually tried to email you on Wednesday through your GunsAmerica listing about the Fox 20. I checked the Safar Outfitters site and didn't see it listed there. Could you email me when you get a chance (stephensm AT medimmue DOT com)? I may be interested in your Fox. Thanks.

Matt

Gomatia:

I was in the same boat as you several years ago. If you're sick like me you won't be satisfied with just one, then you'll decide you want a cute little 28 as well and order one from CSM.

Fox smallbores fit in somewhere up high on the list of the coolest things on the planet, no wonder everyone wants them.

Bill
