I am in the market for a inexpensive Under $1000 dollar SxS that can shoot 3" steel shot for waterfowl, dog training and what not. I know some of the italian guns, bernadelli, zoli, fall under this, but the 3" guns seem to be impossible to find. Anyone else have any ideas besides the turkish guns.
Thank you
Bill

How about an Spanish made American Arms Derby 12-gauge sidelock with 28" barrels? These guns will be priced within your budget. They were chambered for 3" shells and came with chrome lined bores. I've been shooting steel through mine for years and the gun has functioned flawlessly. I would seek out a double-triggerd gun with case coloring as opposed to the single-triggered offerings with coin finish.

thats the info I am looking for, I didn't think any spainish guns were chrome lined? Are all the American arms incl. gentry and brittany chrome lined as well? Aya's matadoors? I am not even sure about the zoli's.
I do prefer DT and case.
Thanks

Look for older Japanese (60s and 70s) s x s's, especially in the lesser-known brands.

A little above your price range but the Fabarms Classic Lion will meet your specs, new they were selling at about 1,400 or so. Maybe you could find a used one. I have one a love it!

Bill,
The Gentry and the Brittany both came with chrome-lined bores and 3" chambers. The Brittany was only available with a single trigger, the Gentry came with enough triggers--two.
Arrieta's also come with chrome-lined bores as a standard feature, these guns, however; will be priced beyond your budget. Other Spanish makers have chrome-lined bores available, I am not sure if chrome-lining is/was standard or not--I do know that with an AyA #2 it's an optional upcharge.

I'm using an Italian gun by Luciano Rota imported by Tri Star. Model 411. 5th year now. It's been everything from an oar to a lock pole to what it's supposed to be used for. It's seen the bottom of everything that holds water including salt water bays. Hose it down w/ WD40 after every hunt and leave it in the barn til next time. 30-40 hunts a year. Cleaned after each season. Works for me anyway. By the way, on those 3" waterfowl loads, wear a bandaid on your middle finger, pad towards the trigger guard. It's beat but no problems. I'll get another when this one dies. 28" tubes, 2 1/4" DAH, DT, SemiBT, PG, a tad over 8 lbs. I had the cones lengthened and ordered skt & IC extended chokes. Maybe I just got lucky and got a good one though. Who knows? I hate endorsing something and then it doesn't work out for the other guy but mine is a good gun.
