There was nothing to grab onto so, What I ended up doing is cleaning everything out with acetone, then epoxying a piece of #6 all thread into the open part of the follower (it was in backwards). First try failed (I didn't get it clean enough and an epoxy goober (technical term) ended up on the inside of the cylinder. It worked on the second try. Gil
This thread is confusing and close to a duh. The open [cupped] end of the main spring follower is supposed to be facing the rear. It wasnt in the hole backwards. That cup holds the stirrup thats attached to the hammer. Ya might want to study that arrangement before trying to re-assemble the parts.
