Fantastic, that can change Beech & Maple into low grade Walnut, all you need now is an Abercrombie & Fitch price label blank to Xerox and you can put the torch man in the shade.Wow! a walnut vinegar dipped, torched clunker, available as a Guild draw prize at the Vintagers. I just can't wait.

Well, I went ahead and mixed up a half batch (cut the quantity of all ingredients in half) and, doh!, I put 2 oz instead of 1 oz of turpentine in. Is this scrap now? It takes more than four days to dry and the mixture seems to settle out in the jar over the same timeframe.

I mixed up a double batch,(linseed came in quart size) It seems to go on smoother than straight linseed oil( either boiled or raw)
I did notice something settling out , probably the carnuba wax and or Venetian turpentine.
At least it smells good according to my wife, so I can sit in the living room and rub it into my gunstocks. It seems to be doing well in refreshing some old finishes.

Philbert, Mix up the other half sans the turpentine, simmer well and then whilst warm add your faux paux. Jeff that will be the carnauba settling, warm and shake, it will penetrate deeper if warmed. Warm the stock with a carbon flame and that will assist the impregnation of the stock finish.

Salopian,
Good idea! Why didn't I think of that?! I'll try the warm/heat approach as well.
Thanks for the tips.

Here you go boys, Purdey's London Finishing Oil For Darkening, Filling & Polishing All measures are in English (UK) 1/2 pint of Raw Linseed Oil 2 ozs of Plaster of Paris (Dental Quality) 1/2 fluid oz of Butter of antimony 1/2 Gill Spirits of Wine 2 teaspoons of Vinegar 1 teaspoon of Venice Turps. You can leave out the Antimony if you don't want to darken the wood. Leave out the Plaster if you don't need to fill the pores. That's what is in Slacum Oil.

COnsidering the MSDS on the antimonial butter, maybe it would be best to keep it secret.
