Greg,

May your view of China be spared more of the many setbacks it has already received, many reported in western media. But, alas, that does not seem how events are going.

It is well documented that Han rulers have a long history of channeling efforts of their people into major accomplishments. Beware!

The world is getting larger again, with more fences and higher fences. We want borders.
The global village, is just another word for the down fall of America as a superpower.

Roots are good, but with enough hybrid vigor my sprouts'll do fine right here.

jOe,
I didn't get to see any Geisha's.

Here's some pics in case anyone is interested in what the affluent district of Beijing looks like. There were many westerners here, but mostly Chinese by far. Tourism by the Chinese themselves, made up the largest portion of tourists in Beijing's sites.

The Grand Hyatt where I stayed

The mall under the hotel. It has all the stores and brands we have.

The big shopping street.

A face pasted on more buildings than Mao Tse Tung's by far.

Bummer! But with the grip the Chinese government has on the behaviour its people, it would seem predestined.

Just think of all the tax income the Chinese government could collect from all those rich people!!
