The stock looks vaguely familiar. It's an old gun.
It may have been offered for sale last fall in the UK, but I am not certain.
If it is the one I'm thinking of, Dig knew all about it's condition at that time.
Out there doing it best I can.

It didn't leave MacNaughton with a blued receiver.

Contact John Dickson in the UK with the serial number. They may be able to give you information. They were at the Vintagers in PA this past WE.
good luck.

I saw one of these back in 2014. There was a member on this board (Fletched Pair) who was helping Donald Dallas with the book on Dicksons. This is his reply on the 28ga MacNaughton's:
"All these 28g Macnaughtons have short barrels like this. They were built 'in the white' as a batch of small calibre double rifles with 24in barrels but at some point the maker built a few as 28g guns when they went out the door."
The blued receiver is odd and the 24" barrels aren't in vogue.

Notice how, with skillful photography angles, the vendor de-emphasizes the blacked receiver. I would stay away, especially at the price requested, even if the barrels are sound.

I did not know double shotguns even had receivers. I thought they have frames with typically, sidelock or boxlock actions.
