Here is the August pheasant counts and maps for Iowa.

https://programs.iowadnr.gov/maps//huntingatlas/default.htmlI love to hunt pheasants right up through 4:30 pm on 10 January, and these are the types of places I prefer to hunt, though closer to the center of the state.
There are similar on line resources for Nebraska, but you may have to google them yourself. I seem to have lost them. Whether they are worthwhile and close enough depends on you as much as anything. A friend in the Lincoln area does a lot of 1/2 day upland bird hunting and he is pretty serious about it as well as successful. He doesn't always travel very far. Of course, the grass always looks greener the further away it is. That said, there is good hunting if you want to hunt for it.
