That "Chain" pattern looks virtually identical to that on my ca 1902 F grade Lefever. Perhaps the same bbl maker, though mine doesn't have those thick breeches. I seem to recall seeing a catalog listing for Ithaca from along that era, I believe in an old Sears catalog, where they bragged about the "Heavy Breech" of their guns.

Ad suggests twice gun is 12 ga. but in any case, breech ends are heavy in section. I have set of damascus barrels on 12 ga. Syracuse Arms gun which are .235-.240" at breech. These appear maybe 5/16"?

Very cool gun and nice that both barrel sets have remained with the gun.

One question as I haven't owned one of these models. Shouldn't the lever stay right of center when the gun is open?

Looking for a little education here. The reciever of the gun in question looks kinda plain, while the checkering on the stock looks pretty fancy. Is this a factory checkering job? Sorry for the sidetrack...

The checkering appears to be a grade 3/4 Ithaca pattern to me. I admit that I have not seen a Crass graded gun but am imagining what it would be if it were a Flues.
The engraving appears to be done in a style that would be called Bright Cut if it were on silver of the late 19th and early 20th century. I like the elegance of it. Reminds me of those wonderfully plain "funeral guns".
This appears , to me, to be a special order gun and of some way more than ordinary quality.
I would note that the striker bushings are not a match nor are the hammers.
It would be very interesting to learn for whom it was built.
Best,
John

Contemporary Ithaca ads referred to this type barrel as their "cannon Breech."

I too have never owned one of these, so not really sure. I have seen single bolt guns on which the bbl lug below the locking notch was so shaped as to cam the bolt back & then let it snap in upon closing. Whether this gun was so built, I don't know or if he just tripped the catch or it is perhaps malfunctioning.
Many double underbolts use the front lug surface as a bolt cam, thus doing away with the catch & allowing the lever to return to center when open.
