FallCreekFan, welcome to the forum. But I'm curious about the statement where you seem to be saying that the Western Arms Long Range Double shared the same barrels as the Ithaca NID. Take a look at the rib extension on your barrels, and those from an NID, and you will see they are not the same. The NID has a rotary bolted action, and a rectangular hole in the barrel rib extension.

One working mans double that hasn't been mentioned is the N.R. Davis. My uncle had one, but I never saw him use it. It hung on the wall above his reloading bench. Of course, I asked my Dad and uncle about it. I was told that it was heavier than their Model 870 pumps, and only held two shells. Also, it had a problem with doubling, and three different gunsmiths were not able to fix it. It took a number of years for me to overcome their negativity toward double barrel shotguns. I have several of these working man's doubles, but I never had a desire to buy an N.R. Davis because of that early negative review.

I hope Geo will take Ted's advice about repairing the 20 ga. Iver Johnson... unless the rib popped loose from being shoved into the garden as a tomato stake.

A true sign of mental illness is any gun owner who would vote for an Anti-Gunner like Joe Biden.

Remington Model 1894 and 1900. I have a 16 gauge 1900 that is 6.5 pounds and feels very comfortable.

I was reading back through some old hunting notes. I had a Hunter Fulton 16ga that I referred to as "maybe the best long range pheasant gun I've ever owned".

I guess it depends on what your definition of a working man is.
You can certainly say that volume produced for the masses would be a key indicator.
Limiting it to SxSs, probably something from NY or CT.

Out there doing it best I can.

I guess the standard for "working man" can be whatever you want it to be. My first 870 in the 70's was priced about the same as an Ithaca/SKB double. That is the gun I really wanted but my father believed the 870 would be more versatile. While in my late 20's and making less than $10 per hour I bought my first Grulla. As someone that will be a "working man" for as long as I live I have to consider anything in the safe a working man's gun.

Thanks, Keith.
And, right, the finished barrel sets for the Long Range are not interchangeable with the NIDs but rather the actual barrels, the tubes, were the same that were used in the NIDs.
