not wise to speak unkindly of those who have recently departed this world...one knows not what powers they have acquired in their new circumstances...plus, it does seem rather poor form to bad mouth those who are no longer here and unable to respond...besides, there are always two sides to any disagreement...and as for the two former big time gun dealers alluded to here, both were in business for many years and no doubt had hundreds, if not thousands of happy customers...and because some deals mentioned here did not result in a happy buyer outcome does not mean the seller was dishonest...dishonest sellers do not stay in business for very long...

Sorry to hear all the bad news reports from shady deals done by even shadier dealers- The only 3 gun dealers I ever dealt with, over the past 30 years were: Bill Jaqua, Brad Bachelder and Don Criswell. The only "shady" dealer I ever encountered was about 12 years ago, at a weekend gun show in Lansing. He had a nice looking Ithaca 4E 20 bore, dt, fancy stock, sunburst pad-- I asked him If I could handle it-believe he was asking something North of $3K for it-- I always carry a pocket sized Stanley tape- when I pulled it out to measure the barrel OAL-- he quickly brushed my hand holding the tape rule aside, and said-- _Oh, no need to do that, I already measured them and they are 28" long. As Ronny Reagan once said: "Trust is fine, but always cut the cards before each deal" I picked it up, measured the barrels at 26&3/4" right on the schnozz-- "Humm, I said, as I handed it back to him-- guess it's time to take my Stanley tape back to Ace Hardware and get it "re-calibrated"-- RWTF

Some dealers we know are trustworthy. Some may be so only when they're faced with a client who knows his stuff. I think the best ones are straight regardless. In that category I'd mention Ron Peterson Alb, NM. I've had annual sales, buys, and trades with him at the Las Vegas show for many years and always felt I'd been treated with complete honesty and respect. On top of that, he always has a wide range of goods to appeal to many interests. Our collection /hobby opens us to the kind of folks who sell used cars though I can't help thinking some of them are honest too.

a great thing about web sites like gunbroker is the feedback feature for both buyers and sellers...keeps all accountable and responsible of their actions...that is why crooked sellers and crooked buyers dont last long on gb...

My experience with Jay Schachter was outstanding. He is honest both in the description of the gun and in person when looking at one of his guns at his new store. Yes, he is in the business of selling guns but if you are not happy he stands behind what he sells. I returned a gun I was not happy with and he refunded me on the spot. It was an expensive gun. I would do business with him in a heartbeat.

Our collection /hobby opens us to the kind of folks who sell used cars though I can't help thinking some of them are honest too. So tell us Billy, do you think that Sonia Sotomoyer and Elena Kagan were being honest when they both said that they respected the 2nd Amendment during their Senate confirmation hearings, but then sided with the other two anti-gun Liberals on the Supreme Court in saying that the 2nd Amendment does not recognize an Individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms? And how honest are all of the other Democrats you support, who tell us the same lies, and then work like dogs to infringe upon the Constitutional Gun Rights of law abiding citizens? A dishonest anti-gun Democrat like Joe Biden can do a lot more damage to millions more people than a couple somewhat crooked gun dealers. But you support and defend those massive anti-gun scams, don't you Billy?

an as for people who sell used cars...in my opinion, those that can make it long term in that tough, controversial business are some of the best sales people there are...
