I find myself using lighter loads as time goes by and am having trouble finding wads for 3/4 oz in 16 ga especially. I have a small stash of these in Claybuster but cannot find any listings for more. Any ideas would be appreciated. thanks, Gil

Gil:

A fiber or cardboard 28 gauge wad (Ballistic Products should sell them) used as a filler inside the one ounce or 1-1/8 ounce 16 gauge wad cup to take up the appropriate amount of space is a solution. They weigh next to nothing and don't require modifying the loading data. Insert it before filling the wad with shot and it won't disrupt the pattern, either.

Or at least that's how I do it.

Gil: our mutual friend Bill worked up a published load that I use regularly in my 1906 damascus (and slightly thin) 16g Smith 0E.
RST uses Cheddite hulls which reload OK once you get the crimp depth right.
2 1/2 Cheddite hull, 14gr Green Dot, 3/4 oz. shot., BPI SG 16 Sporting wads, and Cheddite Clerinox 209 primers.
Pressure is less than 5500 and a buddy chronographed the load at 1185 fps.
There is incomplete powder combustion during the 6 weeks of cool temperatures here in the desert wink

Charles "Nick" Hammack designed the wad and he's over at the 16 ga. site but an infrequent poster. Give a shout out over there. I think he did a limited run of them. Gil

Milt, my usual sources are out of the DR16. Might be worth a call to Down Range Manufacturing to see if and when they have another run planned.

Dave, I emailed them. I hope I get a response. I only have around 200 DR16 wads left.

For some unknown reason, I have not been able to log onto the 16g site. Since I cannot log on I cannot ask for help. I still read it but cannot post.
