The River of Doubt story is a very interesting tale of adventure going most deadly wrong. The trip was certain a major reason Teddy died so young. The impact is lost on most people. Teddy was still a young man when he left the White House and would have been a major political figure for 30-40 years more had he lived a full life.
Had he not died in 1919 most political experts agree he would have been the most likely front runner for President in 1920. How would history been different if he had a second tenure in the White House? He nearly won as a third party candidate in 1912 and would have most likely would have easily won the Republican nomination in 1920. And the Republicans won easily that year.
He shaped the first 10-20 years of the 1900's and he could have help shape the country for decades. Our lost I fear.
