As for an eye for an eye, it could probably be argued that the US took the will to fight out of the Japanese. I have always despised the cultural mentality that could carry out a Bataan death march, but there is little doubt, many US troops occupied Japan after the war in tiny outposts. They lived for years in complete comfort and safety, and many brought brides back to the US, go figure.
