Although I can't tell you the exact date of manufacture of this gun, all Nitro Specials, were (as the name implies) modern guns designed for modern ammunition. While shooting 1 1/4oz 16 gauge loads is possible, if unpleasant, most defer to a guns age, and use slightly lighter loads in their old nitros. Nitros may be the ultimate good deal using gun in todays market. Best, Ted

According to the information provided in the "other useful information" section of this site, your Nitro Special was built in 1928 ot 1929. The Nitro Special was built to be compatible with SAAMI specifications for shotshells and it will handle currently available ammo...Geo
Don't shoot steel in it though.

291054 - 1929, 12904 is that the correct number and it is a Nitro Special? If it is a Western Arms model, it could be 1930 if they truly produced and assigned numbers for that year.
Kind Regards,
