Who here shoots swamped rib guns? I guess the barrel weight is less. They look kinda intriguing.
What do you like or dislike about them?
Thanks.

I like ‘em. I’m a bird hunter, when I shoot clays it is to practice for bird hunting. I would say “lighter” depends on the gun, and the style of the rib, most swamped ribs do not have an under rib, but, that isn’t carved in stone.
Doesn’t seem to be much middle ground, people like or hate them.
Best, Ted

I like to look at 'em. Don't care so much for shooting them. Most are not matted. Glare can be an issue on a bright, hot dove field. Not an issue in the woods, usually.
I like slightly raised, wide, flat, matted ribs.

so, watt is ah swamped rib any hows? Your new nickname is Lazy Ed. Why don't you go to the trouble to look stuff up for yourself instead of imposing on good folks on the forum to scratch your itches?

Told and showed him a 100 times. He has the notion that a concave rib eye is a swamped rib, for some reason. Best, Ted

I hate to tell you guys, but you aren’t supposed to look at the rib, but ONLY THE TARGET. Easier said than done, but ribs, swamped or otherwise, are supposed to be superfluous.

I have 1 English gun with a swamped rib and re single barrels, an 870 and a model 12 twenty with no rib. I can shoot them ok, but not as well as a 34” competition gun with a vent rib. Not sure why? Keep your eye on the target. Don’t check the barrel or rib. If you do, you stop the swing and miss. Keep your eye on the target, no visual disconnect, or you will miss.

It's because the rib is in your field of vision. Even though we are not looking at the rib, and the bead, we still see them. I cannot be convinced that they do not matter. And, please don't confuse me with facts. Best, SRH
