I would have bought the Ithaca. The Ithaca had a xx fancy buttstock that showed a little finish added in spots...Sorry I botched the deal for Jeff...the Flues was offered to me as a Lewis for $250, when I took the gun down to show him the cocking tongue that makes it a Flues, I also noticed the 2 grade designation and told him so. His response was "does that mean it's worth more?" I said $100 bucks ao so... ..also each barrel was marked 4/4 which I assume is the choke designation for full and full. The action was beautiful except for the chicken track border engraving...The guy took my email address, I assume to help identify the rest of the collection...oh yeah, the Flues was crolle, the Crass was stub twist. Both were honest wear guns.

Robert,
Very interesting observations on the finishes. Were you allowed to disassemble or did you make the bluing observations when the gun was broken open? So do you mean to say that the barrel flats and the lug sides were not filed/cleaned after bluing? Likewise, the history is interesting as well.
I particularly likely the engraved grouse on the action and grouse head on the trigger guard. Simple style, but much better than say the bowling pin ducks of Parker fame. Were you able to note any identifying marks of the engraver?
Did you notice the damascus tubed Baker action minus the buttstock right next to the books across the room from "the Hook"? If so, what kind of damascus was that?

Sorry, no contact information. The barrels not only had the dents at the muzzle (low pressure/lower risk) they had what seemed to be dents/indentations, not pits, over the full length. Believe me, I love my 16ga's and would consider damascus barreled guns for light loads and woodcock hunting. I just limited my transactions to those that included my gun in trade or proceeds from sale of.

Sorry, I missed the Baker...maybe it'll be at the Alexander show, which I think is next Sunday. Alexander NY is very near Batavia and there are always Bakers there...usually Batavias and Black Beauties...occasionally an R grade or a Paragon...museum quality peices appear at that little show but rarely at prices that I can meet. In fact, I once sold a Lefever over & under caplock combination gun there ($750)...before I knew what it was...There has always been an interesting bunch there, led by Doc Spink...
