I distinctly remember an investigative journalist smart phone report from a few years ago. He carried several, some on and some off, around a combination taxi and walk, several block city loop. They read a hundred some odd data points that the "on" phones recorded, based on location and proximity to businesses. When they turned on the phones that were off, they immediately started downloading similar data points as the phones that were recording in real time.

I've known that they can do that, and accepted it with some reticence. But, answering a text for you is way beyond that, IMO.
