I am really tempted to pull one side, but nervous at the same time. I don’t think they have ever been cracked open.

Well, if you are able to mate a turnscrew to the screwhead and carefully extract it, then you can screw it in the right side & gently pull the right lock. Then if need be, tap the left lock out with a punch or similar from the right side.

Oh, I’m well aware of the process. I’ve totally taken apart and reassembled the locks and action of my LC Smiths. I have the proper turn screws for the job, just hate to muck something up.

Raimey,

Are you aware of any records of how many Perkes may have built under his own name, like my gun?

>>In the 1880s, Boss favored the sidelock design of Thomas Perkes (No.1968 of 1878).
The gun shown is a 12-b, non-ejector (APUN 330) that sold in 1886 for £49.<<

A very safe way to pull the locks out was shown to me by JJ Peradeou. After removing the lock screw hold the wrist in one hand and then gently tap the hinge pin area with a soft blow hammer or a piece of wood. The vibration will slowly lift the locks out of their recesses without any damage. Works beautifully.
