How can I tell the date of proof? OK, I did find a number of 851, so I guess this means Aug. 1951? I will be bringing it to the National Gun Day in Louisville, KY. Would any of you be there? Or would know any double guys that could tell me more about it? thanks Mike

When is the Gun Day? Typically, if it is a post WWI double on the underside of the left barrel on the barrel flats near the rear toward the extractors will be a proof date in the form of month year(omitting 19 - 235-Feb. 1935), month, year(omitting 19). Once again, if you could email or post a pic of the barrel flats and receiver, you would have many answers.

Kind Regards,

On barrel flat is a number 851. So it appears Aug.51 was the date on this Simson 20 double.

I have pics but I am photo challenged as far as using an image host at the time. I thought around 1K would be a fair figure. I have a Winchester 24 in 20 gauge and this points and handles much better.
