Is there a source to date Daly guns? The only info is 1363, the crossed pistols with crown above them on the 10 Ga. twist barrels, one of which has a small AS stamp on the left barrel and an AR stamp on the bottom of the receiver below the trigger assembly.
I'm in the process of cleaning it up and am impressed with the inletting, fitting, and workmanship of it.
Thanks for any help that can be provided!
Welder

I’ll start. Pics help.
Crown over crossed pistols means it’s pre 1892 so from the first serial number series. #1363 would be a little more than a third of the way through the known serial numbers of the first series but there is very little info (read none) on quantities per year. I might take a stab and say late 1870’s, give or take a few years.

Can take more pix, but these are the ones with Numbers! The rest are in pieces being cleaned. Where did Daly source all the guns with his name on them?

Charles Daly guns have been sourced from Prussia, Belgium, England, Italy, Japan and Turkey. Probably left a few countries out.

I would strongly recommend this publication if you are interested in these Daly’s. Some of the authors of this one are the wise old fellas that answer our questions here.

Picture of the action profile and script on top rib will surely help. You should also check out canvasbacks Daly restoration post here it is an amazing documentation( pic heavy) of his guns restoration.

1st Series or Sequence for sure so pre-1891/1892. Interesting mechanic initials AB on the frame paired w/ those on the tubes. I do wonder if subcontractor mechanic AB did most of the work? I think that I have attributed the initials AB to August Blatt of Suhl-Albrechts. His concern was entitled Gewehrteile und Metallwarenfabrik and he had some novel device or trademark of Diopter Marke Perfekt. I believe he shuffled off the mortal coil in 1920.
But maybe we should look for initials on all other Lindner-Dalys on the frame?

Here's a pic of the receiver as well as the top rib engraving, hope it assists in some dating info. Also, I'm pretty sure the stamp on the receiver is AR, not AB. Interesting there are so few marks and stamps on the gun. Any suggestions on getting a bit more shine or polish to the action etc. without burring the engraving?

Ultrasonic cleaner. Look at my Daly Restoration thread from last April through June to see effects of ultrasonic cleaning. https://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=569690

I agree with canvasback and Raimey - late 1870s gun. I second jtplumb's recommendation on the GCCA Daly Almanac as the best resource to date on the Prussian Daly guns. There is still a tremendous amount to still unravel in the Prussian Daly story, but the Almanac will provide a solid start.
Regards, Ken
