I thought that I would give the forum a "heads-up" for those who don't already know. The first ever (as far as I know) British gun auction (like Holt's, Bonhams, Southby's, Christie's, Southam's, Scotarms, etc.) is being held here in Columbia, South Carolina on December 8th., 2007. See the Autumn issue of Double Gun Journal for the full page ad, plus Diggory Haddoke's article (at the end) for more info. The site will be at Charlton Hall Auction House, http://www.CharltonHallAuctions.com, 912 Gervais Street, Columbia, SC 29201. The owner/auctioneer is Ron Long. The phone number is (803) 779-5678. Diggory Haddoke and Michael Yardley will be present for cocktails & conversations during the preview. Both British, European & American guns are to be offered in all price ranges. A well known gunsmith will be on hand to answer questions.

George:

Not in amusement, but will your lot be in the mix? Also, from where has Ron Long drawn his pieces?

Raimey: As I understand it most of the guns will be coming from estates and the UK. I may put a few of my own in if there is room. It is my understanding that they intend to keep this first one relatively small (100-150 guns)They have already received several: a couple of Gebruder Merkles and a cased Browning superposed profusely engraved four barrel set:12,16,20 .410. Read the DGJ article & perhaps you will get a better idea.

Best Regards, George

George L.:

I have read the article. I have never been to one and if it is within a days drive, I would like to see how it functions because I don't see myself flying to Britian for an auction. Maybe to hunt, but not an auction.

Joe: Just read Dig's article Pg. 32 & the ad Pg. 83 in Autumn DGJ. They mention Purdey, Lancaster, Lang, Osbourne, Westley Richards, a pair of MacNaughton "Edinburgh" 12 bores, an Adams & Co back-action hammer gun, a Springer bar-action, boxlocks by Greener, Hill & Morrow. Ron & his associate Hermann Sommersell fully intend to have a first class English Gun Auction. He's even having his preview room complete re-designed for this auction with new display cabinets constructed. We'll miss you if you're not there!

Best Regards, George

Raimey: Columbia, SC is at the intersection of I-20 & I-26 @ 3 hours from Atlanta. Perhaps you & Joe could carpool.

If you desire to have him there that bad, then I'll go & collect him. He did make a funny on revdocdrew's Damascus post, you know. About how far would you say it would be from Chattanooga, TN?
