Hi all,

I just purchased a J.P. Sauer drilling. I'm not too familiar with them and figured someone here would know more about it. It's in what I would say 99.9% or 100% condition. Just unbelieveable condition. All the engraving is crisp as can be, almost impossible for it to have been refinished. The barrels are 16, 16 and 8mm. I was told it was made sometime in the early 1930s.

Anyone have any idea on what model this is or what it's value is?

Great looking drilling! I can't help you on the price, but I can't help admiring it either! Great combo for deer and trukey in the fall.

$4750 assuming original condition and 16x16/8x57JRS caliber combo.

I wouda' guessed it later than early 30's. Have you checked for a date under the barrel flats? Will appear as 3 0r 4 small character numbers such as 933 for Sept 1933. You should be able to find them. If it is early 30's and as clean as it looks, the above value guess might not be too far off.

It looks like ca. early 60s gun to me. It's worth between $4500 and 5000, so I picked a midpoint value.

Looks like a Dural action unless the pictures are "funny". Have you hit it with a magnet?

......., and the 16br chambers are 70mm long, right? Yep, it looks like a nice modern one w/o PITA 65mm or 67mm chambers and that stupid defunct 8x57JR caliber. The nice thing about JRS is you can probably use JR ammo at close range (accuracy usually suffers), but not the other way around.

If you can post a good photo of all the proofs we should be able to get very specific.

Great gun and the 8x57 is a great caliber. You need to look at the proof marks carefully and/or slug the barrel. If an early gun like you first thought (I agree that it looks like a post war gun) then it is likely a .318 8x57JR. If post war, it may well be an .323 8x57R. This matters (a lot) so make sure you know before launching a round down range.

I hunt an 8x57JR drilling often, and deer take about four steps and just sort of fall over.....a great 200 yard rifle. You almost certainly have a three digit date code on it somewhere and close ups of the flats will likely tell the tale.

By the way, both .323 and .318 commercial rimmed ammo is available.

Looks to be a post WW2 Model 3000 Lux Drilling. Retail was 400.00 back in the day. Proof marks will likely be from the late 50s or early 60's and will tell more about this one. Jeff
