j0j0, when it is just you and the dog, that ol' lowly Remington hammerless AE grade will suit you just fine.
It fits the landscape so well, don't lean it on a tree.
A throw back for sure, but thats what we crave!

Same to you ol'j0e!
The Remingtons are ruff 'n ready and the lower grades do lack some culture - but so do I.

Here's an 1875 Remington that shows engraving not common to the period.

Those early Remingtons are especially nice. You dont see many with that amount of engraving.

Their firearms seem to have been overshadowed by Winchester. I have 5 books dedicated to Winchester and only one to Remington.
Rabbit, it should not be difficult to add intro grade Model 31 to your collection. Remi made 189,243 guns which includes 117,739 12ga, 40,312 16ga, and 31,192 20ga. Within last 3 months I have seen two 20s, but each with crack(s) in forend wood-breech end which is something to examine for. Honestly I have rarely looked in used rack of "trombones", so I am not sure how prevalent they really are. I picked up sub 6lb 12ga in very good shape, because something so smooth, graceful, ugly and CHEAP just had to be rescued!
With some 35 variants there are bound to be some rare birds out there, and much to hold ones interest.

Not that rare here Paul. I've come close a couple times on a very early 31 but I've also come close on a very low-numbered A-5 and a Winnie 97 black diamond trap. Can't buy em all.

I sold a nice double Remington to buy a Manlicker 6.5 and still regret it today. However, that got me interested in double guns. So it is not all bad.

When you get chance to leave that log cabin of yours stop at the NRA Museum to see that richly engraved Model 31 in Purdey exibit. It's a stupendous piece. High grade Remi engraving is top notch.
