A little off topic but when I read articles that mention American made guns they mention: Parker Bros., A.H. Fox, Ithaca, Lefever, and L.C. Smith. Why is it that Remington is rarely mentioned? Their 1894 is as fine a gun as any. And Remington dropped doubles to pursue the pump and auto loader market.

Remington Hammerless Model of 1894 were great guns, with prices similar to the other U.S. makers

1902 The Pacific Hardware & Steel Co., San Francisco, CA list prices

.................Parker..................L.C. Smith....................Remington

$70...............VH.......................No. 1 ($60)..................BO ($75)
$80...............GH.......................No. 2.........................BEO
$100.............DH........................No. 3.........................CE ($95)
$150.............CH........................No. 4.........................D
$200.............BH........................No. 5.........................E ($225)

There were however much less popular with shooters.
E.D. Fulford won the 1898 GAH at Live Birds with a Reminton Hammerless, but only 11 were used in the competition
https://digital.la84.org/digital/collection/p17103coll17/id/45659/rec/2
Parker- 56, Smith- 42, Greener- 20, Francotte- 17, Remington- 11, Cashmore- 9, Lefever- 8, Scott- 8, Daly- 6, Winchester- 5, Colt- 4, Purdey- 2, Richards- 2, Churchill, Baker, Hollenbeck, Forehand and Stannard- 1 each.

Rolla Heiles won the first GAH at Targets in 1900 with a Remington
Guns: Parker- 27, Smith – 13, Remington – 7, Winchester 1897 – 9, Greener – 4, Lefever – 3, Scott, Purdey, Marlin – 2 each, Young Repeater, Cashmore, Baker, Richards, Daly, Francotte – 1 each.

The 1904 U.M.C. Squad, included T. A. Marshall, Captain; R. O. Heikes, C. W. Budd, J. L. Head. T.E. Hubby, W. H. Heer, J. T. Anthony, F. C. Riehl and E. D. Fulford, assisted by F. C. Butler. The first five broke the five-man squad world's record by a score 488/500 at Palestine, Texas, and Heer broke 100.
The entire squad used Remington C.E.O. Trap Guns.

As said, Remington got out of the double gun business in February 1910 when they sold their entire inventory of breech loading shotguns to Norvell-Shapleigh Hardware Co. in St Louis.

Pretty sure I read 850,000 Remington Model 11s were sold before 1947 in USA plus another 1/2 Million a5s ( sales from Belgium suspended between 1905-1923) can only imagine the ratio of these sold vs sxs?

It's also worth noting that OUs other than the Browning Superposed were not very popular in this country until after the war. It's not so much that we've lost doublegun shooters. Rather, they've switched from horizontal barrels to vertical barrels.

Sorry to say I do not believe what this man said. Most if not all of the Spanish makers are struggling. Several as you know when out of business. Garbi will probably next. Years ago before Guerini acquired Fabarms I asked them many times about building a sbs. They said the volume was just to low to justify it. I sold lots of sbs but my average customers age was in the 50 and above. Still these customers purchased and had more over unders than sbs guns. Yes, you might see a few more companies selling or trying to sell a line of sbs shotguns in the states but in many cases if you look deeper is just that they are trying to re brand companies that were here at one time and failed for various reasons. RFM, (Roto) Fabarms just to name two.

The volume is just not there. I wish it was.

So this big reassurance that he is saying I just do not see it.
