I'm new here, so a brief background first. Am a long-time pistol competitor in Bullseye & related sports like International Air for 35+ years who got into cowboy action shooting (CAS) about 6 years back. This requires pistols, rifle and shotgun. I started with a higher-grade Flues which could not take the abuse. Now use Winchester 97's and a Stoger double. The latter is when shooting black powder (APP, a BP sub) as the BP class require a double gun.

Just picked up a mint Stevens 311D made in 1968 according to its date code. It has 30" barrels, chambered 2-3/4", choked at R=.680, L=.681 and weighs 8lbs 2oz (accurate weight on an electronic postal scale). Anyhow, I'm guessing it was designed as a waterfowl gun. Appreciate any info I can get on this.

I've ordered a new smooth cocking plunger so the barrels will drop open further, as it will be used by me in CAS.
