Raimey, thanks for your detective work. I don't have the gun in hand, yet, so hopefully I can find out more when it comes. I don't know where the seller got Stadelmann name from, but did see a similar mechanism with the Stadelmann name in a Nitro Express post. Yes, from a visual standpoint, it does resemble a Bastien. That little gizmo on the left that you asked about ? Could it be a snuff box ? Thanks to Mr. Halquist I now know how F.(Friedrich) Stadelmann in Suhl got in the mix. Friedrich Stadelmann peddled one and the previous custodian thought Stadelmann was turning them out. Stadelmann hung out his gunamking shingle in 1860 & fancied the Bayonet, as he was known for the blade. It is possible that his father too was a Büchsenmacher. Now his son or grandson was probably Paul Stadelmann, who was an apprentice @ Otto Bock on his >>Walkabout<< and went on to own E. Schmidt & Habermann as well as Friedrich Zschocke in Suhl, I believe. With that, he probably had his fingers in other Suhl pies too. Serbus, Raimey rse

Well......... Close but not Cigar on Bastin..... More than likely, the tubeset does not slide but rotates as in the Système Colleye/Coleye/Coley.
