With any 2 1/2" load you could ever want just a short session away with a Mec 600 I can't see .anyone would want to run ammo designed to run any semi-auto shotgun sold through a fine sxs built 100+ years ago. Heck I load everything to 2 1/2" so I don't have to think about what I'm shooting.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

oskar, bear in mind, that most shooters dont reload...

and that factory ammo has been made for 100 plus years to cycle auto loaders...as in the browning a5 an its clones...

and i agree, 100 plus year old guns should be fired with light loads only...

when in doubt, consult your trusted gunsmith to keep you out of trouble...

This is interesting and makes sense to some degree however the UK guns at 2.5 chamber or as someone here suggested most were bored at 2 5/8 only used a 2.5 shell. Were they not concerned about gas seal as well? I don't think their shells were loaded any differently to those in the US when using fibre wads.

I use lubed fibre wads and my thinking is that with the force of the gas (I use BP almost exclusively) they compress enough and along with the lube prevent gas from escaping. I know after firing a round the wad is shredded once it leaves the barrel so its structure must be compromised (compressed) from the force of the gas before leaving the barrel.

The first 1/8" of a forcing cone is just a few thousandths smaller than the chamber dimension. In addition to that fact, the thickness of a plastic shell is much less than the paper shells that the old guns were made for. Don't worry, be happy. It is ridiculous to think that thousands of 2 5/8" chambers have been bored out to 2 3/4" over the years at great expense and wasted effort, with no advantage.

eight...could it be that the removal of the fiber wad sealing ring decreases chamber pressure and improves patterns for shot loads encased in a plastic wad cup?
