I had the pleasure to know Bernie, he wanted me to make some choke gages for his 4 bores to give to his friends that had 4 bore guns. So I went to his house and measured all of them. I wanted to make them out of aluminum but he wanted brass. I told him that he would need a belt holder to carry them, but he still wanted brass. When finished I asked him if he knew what the chokes might be and he didn't know, so between Bernie and his good friend Jim Stahl and myself we figured out what they might be. He was leary at first but I told him he owned more than anyone and to make them what we came up with.
I have the records of all his 10 4 bore including the W & C Scott & Son. Barrel length 38 3/16" Right bore: .938 choke: 898 constriction .040, Left bore: .938 choke: .898 constriction .040
He had a site I think it was called Big Bore . He and Jim Stahl had a gentleman make up 4 bore hull and he gave me one, looks like a small cannon shell.
This is what we collectively came up with as to choke/s and was stamped on each flat of the gage.
