Bingo.
Well said.

No one ever wants to hear that about a Flues.

I have one where the cocking bar needed .015 added just to be able to open it.
It’s a brilliant design but easily worn.

This is great information. Thank you very much. Thus described my problem I believe. It just happened again last week and it took me about / hours the next day to get it to open 😒. It would open just enough so I could backlight the sliver of the opening and I could see both pins were out, just as you explain. CI have found some featherlight 7/8 oz loads from Clever that I’m going to try, I talked with the company rep and he shared with me the velocities and pressures for this load, that I think are satisfactory for the gun, at least for a test (1150fps. 6950psi), and they use their own primers. Do we’ll see what happens.

Am I correct in assuming that to remedy this ‘timing’ issue the gun must be completely disassembled?

Well, last night I shot two rounds of 5 stand, using these Clever RX1 Featherlite loads. I had no issues opening the gun.
BUt, with that said, as I was inspecting some of the fired shells, focusing on the primers, I think I've convinced my self that Kutter hit the nail on the head.
After measuring several of the fired primers, I still see some indications of dragging, but not enough to cause the hang I guess.

ALthough these primers seem a bit harder than the cheddites and didn't hang up on the firing pins as I broke the gun open, not only is the depth of the indentation slightly less,
but I also noticed that NONE of these fired primers exhibit the blackness of some of the primer indentation after firing that I was seeing with some Cheddites.
I assume this is an indication of the firing pin actually puncturing the primer possibly.

It does appear as I look closely at the gun as I break it open that there is a delay in the firing pins being
released by the cocking rod.
So, as most indicated, this seems like a timing issue, and as I read in some other threads, not uncommon to 'Flues' as these parts are known to wear.

Anyway, so I'll have to look into getting this resolved at some point, as this is apparently just a 'band-aid' , and not the fix.

Unfortunately, Les at Diamond Gunsmithing in Ithaca is no longer with us.

Has anyone had any experiences with any gunsmiths in upstate ny that are familiar with the Flues and this issue?

I would pm IthacaRick on here someplace.
A place called gun garage used to sell them on eBay.

I looked on the site and there are a bunch of old threads here that deeply address your situation. Some with pictures.

The piece on your gun that has a problem is called a cocking hook.

It might be bent or it might be worn. It’s a hardened part so if it’s bent, don’t go Beating on it with a hammer. It has to be annealed first. After it cools, you can straighten it and polish it, and then you can reharden it pretty easily.
