I've got a couple of guns w/ leather covered pads & I love the look & feel of them but they are "briar magnets" in the cover I hunt & soon look a bit tattered. Obenaufs or something similar is good for keeping the leather soft & nice condition but something like Kiwi boot polish in the appropriate color does a better job of making the scrapes & cuts my leather covered pads pick up look a bit more cosmetically acceptable. I will say that the pigskin covered pads hold up the best for me & goat skin looks very nice when new but simply wont hold up to upland hunting.
