I found a 12 bore hammer gun (wreck) in a closet at the old place in Iowa. It says "Parker" on the Left side of the action, and "Laminated steel" on the rib.........May have other marks but they are coverd up with crap. Doesnt look good enough to be a real Parker...any thoughts?

There are lots of real Parkers that don't look good enough to be real Parkers.

A lot of JABC's had mis-spelled Parker. They were not made in Conn.
See if the rib says who and where.

Any British proofmarks? What about Alfred Gray Parker Company in Birmingham, England. Just a guess.

Yeah, that stamp of "Laminated Steel" made me ask. By the way, how are the pheasants up there? I'm headed to Glen Elder in a week.

Kind Regards,

The Parkers I have been familar with were all marked "Parker Bros". Were they so marked from the beginning?? or were other markings used?

Thats what makes me think it aint one. Every one I have owned or seen says "Parker Bros". When I get some time I'll clean it up some and see what else is under the gunk. For you folks that are asking about Kansas pheasants, I think ,locally, we will have quite a few birds. When we were harvesting, everyone was remarking about how many there were. I am pleasantly surprised, based on the late ice storm we had last year, and the blizzrd that followed. It may be spotty tho. Nebraska opens tommorrow, so I am going to journey all the way up there (12 miles) and check that out. Aint life tough?

It's a good thing I happened to read this thread. I consulted with a Parker expert I know and he told me the late Parkers only say 'Parker' because Remington did not have enough money to buy the Bros part of the name. So they settled for just Parker - kinda like when you want cheese on your hamburger but can't afford the extra 50 cents. It is entirely possible that someone ordered the gun in the late 1930's after the Remington takeover and they were just using up the remaining supply of parts which, according to some records he had, included laminated barrels and enough odd parts to make a hammer gun. The laminated barrels were probably made by Parker, not imported, and may shoot better than barrels made of other types of steel.

I'm glad this mystery has been solved. If you ever need solid proof your gun is authentic, just stand a little straighter and tell the fool who would question you, "Remember, when it comes to Parker, never say never!"

The late Remington guns say Parker on the bottom of the receiver.
This gun says Parker on the side. Plus I doubt you'd get laminated barrels in the 30's. It's a JABC gun.
