I'm with the others. I don't think it would be worth the cost of restoring after it's restored. Sell it to a Cowboy Action Shooter. They'll shorten the barrel and never know the difference.

Concur you might want to research and examine the "shot&ball" aspect; it may be an unusual and fun gun - especially as a working shooter, but also concur that to restore or renovate will probably overcapitalise unless you can do a lot of it yourself as a project and keep and enjoy it for a long time. Thank you for your replies. You have confirmed what I already suspected.
Worthy and worth are indeed two separate things, and while I never buy guns to make money it is always nice to know something is worth what it has cost you. I do agree however if a gun really appeals to you it can be worth doing even if financially it may not be the best of investments.
I may simply have the barrels shortened an inch or so (neither are choked or rifled so I guess its less of a sin) ,have the action tightened and shoot it as is,depending on my smiths closer assessment.
Can we narrow the date down on this gun at all?
As the barrels appear neither oval or rifled but are cylinder would "ball" refer to buckshot or slugs?

Do you think the automobile Street Rod guys have the same discussions? Do you think they ever make money or even break even when they sell one of those cars? Heck, I'd do it. Its a cool gun with great engraving!

Fix it up as a shooter. If you had every thing done to make it back into a pristine gun you would not want to enjoy it in the field. Forget the money and consider what would give you the most use for your money. That has to be as a gun that you can enjoy as a gun not as a closet queen. It is a decent makers gun but no great high grade gun that can justify spending big bucks to make it new again so just deal with what needs to be done and enjoy.
