My family and I will be traveling through the UK in August.
Looking for recommendations on places to hunt in Scotland. Preferably not lifestyles-of-the-rich-and famous.
I'll have my wife and 5 kids (ages 7 to 15) along with me, so a place with some good hiking type of activities nearby would be great.

Hiking...?
"I can provide six inexperienced but healthy and enthusiastic beaters. Gratis. They only require a taste of the countryside. They may, however, need to be taught about taking tea."

I have a friend that used to get Shooting Times or The Field and he said there were often ads for days to be let by syndicates trying to fill out a field. Hiking should not be too big a problem, I was told when shooting in Scotland a year ago that most of the countryside is open to hikers.

Get on to https://www.gunsonpegs.com They have many of the shoot listings and it'll give you other ideas and contacts to look into. Just before covid a friend and I shot in the Borders South of Edinburg. We stayed at Burt's Hotel in Melrose a great place with great food.

August will have limited "game shooting" opportunity - ie red grouse. However there will be good pigeon shooting available during the late harvest period.

Hiking in August eg Scottish Highlands and Uplands - take sufficient insect repellent to deter the "midge" . Coastal and Lowland hiking will bring less encounter with the little black insect.
