Yeti, I finally received the spirit stain from Brownells. I have about 6 coats on it now and it is nearly perfect. One more and I think I'll stop. What a remarkable stain.

DT, good deal!
I first tried those stains on a beech military stock - the wood is very dense and totally without pores - using standard oil based stuff was like trying to stain a teflon pan. But these spirit based (I think the solvent is MEK) stains penetrated into that swedish beech and will cut into/through most finishes.

JC, Behlens works just like the R Gale stains.
