At the time I was able to get guns out of France to Canada with the acquisition of a simple, minimal cost form from each of the two governments that were essentially saying in the eyes of the Canadian government I was authorized to receive said firearm. I would then have the gun dropped in the mail. 6-8 days later it would be available for pick up at my local PO upon payment of duty and taxes due. The transport and document fees were always less than $100. Sometime in the second half of the last decade, the EU discovered this travesty and quickly put an end to it.
