I hold w/ the med >>NexGard<<, if you want to go that route. My Dogs are Inside - Oustide Dogs. Inside @ night & out all day. Now it is expensive but I bring in many more ticks than they do. Actually I find few, if any fleas or ticks on them.

You have seen pics of my dogs. Nearly every one of them, they are wearing orange vests. That is mostly for visibility. But I also soak them with Permethrin if I'm going someplace that ticks might be an issue. Other than that, lots of tick checks.
We do not worry too much about fleas until one of them kills a rabbit or squirrel. Then everyone gets a bath with flea soap, and all the dog bedding gets washed immediately. We just don't have much of a flea problem, unlike when I lived in the South. It is a lot tougher down there.

the spray in the purple bottle from Tractor supply is good for both you and the dogs. I supplement the oral tick and flea/heartworm meds.

Nexgard for the dogs. Give them a good going over on the tailgate. Permethrin on my chaps. Wife gives me a good looking over after a hunt. I hate those creepy buggers.

I no longer have a dog but I use Permethrin on my clothing and have not had any issues with ticks. Here is an article I discovered doing some research in response to your post. It says Permethrin is safe for dogs and is the chemical used by several flea and tick dog treatments. https://www.dogster.com/ask-the-vet/is-permethrin-safe-for-dogs

Once a month Credilio for fleas, ticks. .35CC 1% bovine Ivermectin, oral for heartworm, (dosed by weight). I give her a good brushing when back to the vehicle then use a hand held vacuum, dust buster, gets the loose ones. That said we're hunting, assuming the risk of Lymes as part of it. Two of my prior dogs contracted Lymes. It is curable though the dogs always showed in their blood work even though no symptoms. Both lived 13+ active years. My dog's annual physical is in Jan. and you will catch problems early enough. Myself I wear long unders even when it's warm. Spray deep woods Off on my pants and shoes and immediately take a shower when back to the "Palace"(camper)! Plus inspect clothing. Lucky so far with Lymes.
