The last era I can remember hunters or gun owners were shown in a favorable light was an episode of “The Wide World of Sports” that showed a North Eastern grouse hunt, complete with some awesome dog work with an English Setter. The guys hunted up to an edge of a new housing development and remarked that they used to hunt all the way to the river on the other end in years past.
This was circa 1971, I’m guessing.
A few years later came a CBS hit job, that was called “The Guns of Autumn” that slandered all hunters, but especially deer hunters.
Since then, the work done by sportsman’s groups and the funds generated by participants in hunting and fishing are pretty much belittled and mocked regularly by the mainstream media.
Looking for a public relations coup for Sportsman from the media is a fool’s errand.
Best,
Ted
