W. Richards is still in business but now at Pocklington, Yorkshire https://www.wrichardsguns.co.uk/ Here is a similar one at auction in England. https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/...lot-eb15eb7e-2e73-4a54-bc55-b11f00af86b0 It is a needle fire Rook & Rabbit rifle. The serial number 1939 may be in their records as they still hold fairly complete books. Worth an e-mail and good luck. Lagopus.....

I have seen a lot of W. Richards marked guns that were of obvious Belgium build and proof. I may be wrong, but I believe W. Richards of England was not the only maker to use that as a trade name.

We had one of the Belgian variety when I was a kid. It was not even a good wall hanger.

Hope he gets back to you. His name is Chris Caine and I understand he can be a bit slow with replies. I would think 1850's would be a nearer date. W. Richards was at Liverpool and Preston plus other addresses over the years. I think the Belgian knockoffs were trying to trade on the better known Westley Richards. I should be in that part of Yorkshire in September and will try to call in at the shop; that is if the other half doesn't complain too loudly. He also has the name for William & Powell of Liverpool and also Thomas Horsley of York. Interesting shop. Lagopus.....
