Just picked this one up, it’s on its way. Odd gold 3 leaf clover on dolls head, some novel checkering and engraving. Seller says slight pitting ahead of chambers. Haven’t bought an English gun in 20 years but at 250.00 I thought it would work out. ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/RvDD4sB.jpeg) ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/1bLNEQx.jpeg) ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/eTvuBKO.jpeg) sorry only pic I have of label Dell or dale barn road ?

Nice! And at that price even better!
From whence did you purchase it?

Interesting. Has the look of a W.C. Scott about it. Just look it over carefully and see if you can see a small mark that looks like a castle. Lagopus.....

Found a few others on line all with gold clover on dolls head and same number on forend? See descriptions below Made by R. Grove. The stocks, checkering patterns and engraving match exactly on each gun. There are no numbers on the guns themselves but the wood portion of the forends are stamped with the serial numbers 25302-2 and 25302-40. Each lockplate is engraved with pheasants on one side and ducks on the other. Various scroll engraving is also present on the lockplates, frame and triggerguard. Hammers are also engraved and click up nicely on both guns. Guns are opened by a top lever located between the hammers. Lock up on both guns is tight and positive. Birmingham proof marks are present on the barrels and on the water table. On one gun, the engraving is sharp but the coloration of the frame is gray. Edges and corners are sharp. The triggerguard has been reblued in the English style. The other gun has about 40% of the original color casehardening on the lockplates etc. The triggerguard on this gun also appears to have been reblued in the English style. One gun has barrels that are 28” long and have 12 gauge bores. Bores are excellent but with some very light roughness present. Bores are mostly bright and shiny. Externally, the barrels have nice high quality Damascus twist pattern present. The barrel is mounted with a large ivory bead front sight and small ivory bead mid-sight. The top rib of the barrels is engraved “R.GROVE LONDON FINE DAMASCUS.” Very fine scroll engraving surrounds the panel with the maker’s name. An gold shamrock is inlaid on each doll’s head extension. The barrels for the other gun are also 12 gauge but are 29 ¾” in length. https://www.gunsinternational.com/g...side-hammer-shotgun.cfm?gun_id=100521622https://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=152523&page=all

From the fotos, it looks like a Back-Action hammergun & if so, that would be a good find.

![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/1cBBRxj.png) The chequering on the grip of the Grove has ornate borders as often found on Bonehill made guns. Bonehill were genuine manufacturers and guns bearing their name are generally actually and wholly made by them. If the Grove has a similar action perhaps Bonehill made it for Grove?

I own the same gun. Mine is not in as good of condition as yours. It has a crack through the wrist and is loose. It is a 10 ga with 32" barrels. You might do a search for my post on here that was some years ago. The guys seemed to think that it was made by WC Scott. I've wondered what the significance of the gold clover was and if it was real gold. I consider the engraving very nice quality and the top rib is a work of art in itself. The checkering looks like it belongs on a Parker or other high grade American gun. You don't usually see that on British guns. Nice Damascus barrels and the lock internals are nicely finished. I have pitting in my barrels, but it doesn't seem to be too deep, and they have very heavy walls on them. I hope to restore mine sometime coming.

Gun came in, forend wood on barrel side has been badly tampered with but can be put back. Bores are huge .756, .765 marked 11 bore, chambers are 3” but crazy thick 1.5+ at end of longgg chambers. Not very much pitting but some light stuff. Dean will definitely be getting these to look at. May be was a brass shell gun and someone lengthened or created forcing cones. Looks to me like an English gun made for export, little rough but much better than most Belgium imported hammer guns. Hammers are the rebounding type. Any thoughts or advice? ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/GYK2fgg.jpeg) ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/IIbHhfv.jpeg) ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/8qUefH8.jpeg) ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/tTSk5ok.jpeg) ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/9MykRgK.jpeg)
