I just spent a couple hours watching the Congressional Hearing into the Secret Service security lapses on July 13th in Butler, Pa. that resulted in a near assassination of Donald Trump, and the tragic death and wounding of three spectators. It was largely a waste of time, because the Director of Secret Service was unprepared, obfuscating, and flat out refused to provide details to simple questions that the public and Media have been asking for nine days. She hasn't even bothered to visit the site of the Butler, Pa. rally. She hasn't listened to radio communications between Secret Service, and State and Local Police. She claimed they had an "overview" of the roof where the sniper was, but had no answers how that "overview" could have missed over 20 minutes of him climbing to the roof with a rifle and getting into position to shoot. She was unable to give a good answer why Jill Biden had 4 times as many Secret Service Agents assigned to her detail that same day for a much smaller and secure indoor event of 400 people in Pittsburgh. She claims she does not know the number of security personnel present that day, and won't have all the details for around 60 days. That is totally unacceptable. 60 days to have answers and make necessary corrections is more than half-way to Election Day.

At least there was a general bipartisan opinion that she should resign or be fired. Her actions before and after show she is unqualified to handle the responsibility and make needed changes. She has no intention to resign, and has no shame. Her Boss, Joe Biden, should have fired her by now. But he is irresponsible and unqualified as well.

Predictably though, many Congressional Democrats used this Hearing as an opportunity to Grandstand their contempt for AR-15 and AK-47 type rifles. They focused more on the gun involved than the security lapses that led to squandering almost an hour on a security threat that had been identified almost one hour prior to the shooting. The Secret Service Director had no answers about several minutes of Secret Service snipers seeing the assassin without immediately stopping the speech or neutralizing the obvious threat, until he actually started shooting at Trump and a very crowded venue. She refused to confirm there was an order to stand down until shots were fired. Despite that, Minority leader Democrat Jamie Raskin's closing remarks were predominately concerned with renewing a ban on semi-auto rifles.

I was disappointed that none of the Republicans thought to mention that John F. Kennedy was effectively killed with a bolt action Carcano. Any decent shot could hit someone in the head from prone position at 130 yards with a single shot black powder rifle. And in this day and age, the shooter or some foreign assassin team or Terrorist could even take out a President with things like a Drone attack, or by crashing a hijacked airplane into a rally. Even worse is the fact that anti-gun Democrats continue to scream for more infringements upon the Gun Right of law abiding citizens, yet they continue to willfully ignore the fact that about as many Americans have died of drug overdoses in the last 3 1/2 years under Biden's open border policy as the total number of American soldiers killed in all of WW II

I hope Dave will post this Thread, even if he decides to lock it. I do feel some discussion would be interesting, and wouldn't drive anybody away. I could easily point to another Firearms Forum that has an active "Trump Assassination Attempt" thread that is now 141 pages and still running. It is an Election year and our Gun Rights are at stake again. For a Firearms Forum, it doesn't get much more On-Topic than that.

And I further hope that everyone here would contact their Congressmen and Senators to tell them that antigun Democrats are being very hypocritical by focusing on taking away more of our 2nd Amendment Rights... while ignoring and actually enabling the much more serious threats we face by Democrats permitting deadly drugs and terrorists to enter our unsecured borders. The Secret Service Director had one job. And Kamala Harris also had one job... of securing the Southern Border. Both of them failed miserably. And Democrats are concentrating on blaming our guns. It's what they do.

Well, she just resigned which for her is better than being fired. Sadly though, she will just be replaced by another political hack.

I thought they unsuccessfully tried to railroad it into Blackguns bad..

What was notable was her flat responses. Alexa has more warmth in her voice. She had a beat down

She was a DEI appointment and it is no surprise a total politically motivated person. Without honor. She will stay in office until Joes term runs out. Doing as much long term damage to the SS as possible all in the name of progress. Well her progress almost got Trump killed, did kill another and seriously injury two others. She refused to be forthcoming in every way she could. The woke has no shame because they think they are right and everyone else is wrong or all fascist.

As I type this I hear she is going to quit. Good riddance. DEI hires are like a cancer and it will take years to recover from their actions. Hiring on anything other than ability and competence to do the job is a mistake. Never made sense to lower standards for inclusion of less able hires.

If you are a fan of C-Span or watch other hearings, just about every Biden nominee especially for judicial positions are less than forthcoming. Most, if not all are just activists rather than experts. They are evasive, use the "I don't recall" answer, show a total lack of candor, and even lie under oath. It is stunning and sad that Democrats just give them a pass and all clear.

Too little, too late. But I'm glad Kimberly Cheatle finally resigned. Her performance and inaction was inexcusable. She should have been intimately involved in the investigation within minutes, instead of handing it off to the same DOJ Agency that lied to the public about the Steele Dossier and Hunter Biden's laptop. That doesn't exactly inspire confidence that we will ever get the whole story and the whole truth. We all like to think we live in Free Society, but after 60 years, we still are not allowed to know the whole story behind the JFK assassination. If Trump lives to be elected again, I hope he will understand it is more important than ever to release those records. After 60 years, those JFK records are still sealed, and we can only wonder why we are not permitted to know the full story behind that. Sunshine is the best disinfectant.

What we do know is that the JFK assassination, the MLK assignation, and the RFK assassination all led up to anti-gun Democrats successfully pushing for the GCA of 1968, the most sweeping Gun Control legislation since the NFA of 1934... which was also pushed by Democrats. RFK Jr. was present when his father was killed in 1968, and he publicly states that he does not believe Sirhan B. Sirhan acted alone.

I agree with Ky Jon 100%. Some jobs are just too important to rely upon DEI hires, and bypass the most qualified individuals. The people who love DEI programs would think sports leagues and Hollywood had lost their minds if the NFL players, NBA players, and actors were hired on the basis of sexual orientation or skin color instead of pure talent and ability. There is a reason Disney Corp. is losing billions due to a Woke culture. The public demands the very best when they pay for entertainment, and they should demand the very best when their taxes pay for government employees.

There was another Congressional Hearing today with the DHS. Once again, some anti-gun Democrats were using the assassination attempt as a platform to push for more gun bans. Kalifornia Democrat Eric Slawell asked a Law Enforcement witness how many firearms were inside the Trump Rally security perimeter, since we are a culture that has way too many guns, in his opinion. He was clearly disappointed when the witness told him the only people who had firearms inside the perimeter were Police and Secret Service. He must have been foolishly under the impression like some in the Leftist Media, that having a concealed carry permit allows one to carry a gun inside a Presidential Campaign Rally. They screen every entrant with metal detectors, and even little pocket knives, nail clippers, and disposable lighters are taken. But Slawell is still focused on using this tragedy to advance more gun bans. And in a statement of support for Kamala Harris today, Joe Biden went right back to calling Donald Trump a danger and a threat to Democracy. So much for toning down the heated and inflammatory rhetoric that has led up to so many death threats and an assassination attempt on Trump.

Once again... I keep saying it... don't pay attention to what those on the Liberal Left say. Pay attention to what they do.

It will be interesting to see who replaces Cheatle. It begs the question of why similar failures by ineffective buffoons in the Afghanistan pullout, Foreign Policy blunders, and wanton violation of Border Security have not also led to firing or forced resignations. Too little, too late... and not nearly enough.

Many thanks to Dave Weber for permitting this Thread topic. We can only hope those who make a habit of disrupting Gun Rights topics can restrain themselves.
