A member is the current custodian of this 8mm rifle and we were trying to determine the stamp under the Blättchenpulver powder load - >>S.G.<< Possibly S G - „S“ Geschoss? More than likely biased any answers but will entertain any & all. Too the 4000 - ATM components aren't really present but this is the palette where they were applied. The Zella-Mehlis Proof Facility used the >>Crown - Crown over N<< stamp elsewhere as Nitro and said stamps are present on the tube & bolt handle of this one or another we discussed.

Or does the 4000 Atmosphärenpulver Test only apply to >>Blättchenpulver - 3,5g G.P.P. / St. m. G.<< and the G.P.P. might be a typo for >>G.B.P.<<¿¿¿

G.P.P. *is* a typo.

On the other hand, the not commonly seen "S.G." might have stood for Spitzgeschoss, and hence may have indicated an 8mm barrel for the so-called "S"-Patrone (wider bullet, wider chamber neck, maybe appropriately reamed leade, while the lands and grooves however might not be different from the M/88 pattern).

I wish one could retrieve the hidden treasure of the old Zella-Mehliser Beschussbücher (proof ledgers). It stands to reason that they were conserved somewhere, after *only* the Suhl proof office was still retained in the Soviet Occupation Zone, the short-lived state ("Land") of communist Thüringen (July 1945 to 1952/58), and still later in the unitarian GDR. Until today.

Now, a Zella-Mehlis gun, the barrel maker and his style... is the barrel possibly stamped (inconspicuously) with "AW" (could be misread as MV) ? That would be Alwin Wahl.

I don't even remember where I lifted the image now; or acquired it. But yes, by the mid 1880s Albin Wahl was rolling his own....
