August is Halibut fishing time

Especially when the grouse are in short supply this season.

Have a great trip CZ. I have never fished for Halibut recreationally but I have commercially, right after high school I worked a season opener out of Kodiak. Pretty interesting 24hrs, I'll never forget manning the gaff with a crewmember holding my belt while I leaned over the rail in high swells to hook a monster halibut so the winch could pull him. I think I might need to plan another trip to AK, my buddy needs a black bear and I just enjoying being there.

Beats stabbing the brakes on an Oldsmobile trying to get that bottle of Hi-Ten from out under the seat on your way to your shyte Teamster job. I suppose that’s fun in a sad, pathetic sort of way.

I believe in life we choose both our fun and our miseries.

Age gives perspective, but that perspective is not necessarily correct. It is colored by our values & expectations.

Last year I hunted more the 20 days trying to walk up prairie chicken on land that in some years has produced 30 plus birds in the bag and most years over a dozen, last year one in range flush with a solid point. I did not have the heart to shoot, but I still went out the next day. One is better than zero. This next year will be better, I hope. The Prairie is still beautiful to walk.

North Dakota Huns, and South Dakota pheasants will still be fun this fall.

Watching my offspring run 25 straight at trap or skeet- when I taught them to shoot. Or, deep-sea fishing in the Atlantic together. Going to NFL games or a Yankees game together. Taking their picture with Mario Andretti and AJ Foyt. Or just sitting out on my deck having a chat. My memories are endless.
