Pretty good group on the lil' buff, Ken. What was the range?
It reminds me of my days competing in IHMSA with open sighted pistols chambered for rifle calibers.
May God bless America and those who defend her.

Oh…..not far at all Stan. About 35 yards.I was testing some plinking loads. The bore is a bit oversized) so I opened up a .41 mag pistol die (about 230 grains) and cast a 100 or so bullets of 1/2 wheel weight/ 1/2 linotype. 16 grains of AA #9 makes a pleasant load and accurate for 50 yard plinking. I love shooting off hand. Some days are good some not. I can still keep the grandkids at bay….. for now!😀
Ken
PS Concerning IHMSA….. I still have painful memories of being talked into shooting one of those Pachmeyer .308 conversions on a 1911 frame..ouch!

I shot a Thompson Contender chambered in .30-30 Win. with handloaded 150 gr. spitzers and RE7 powder. Fun until I practiced a lot and shot a score two classes above mine and was disqualified because they said I was sandbagging ......... for a $15 plastic trophy? Yeah, right. That ended me and IHMSA. Nice rifle, bro'.

I was once talked into firing a .47-70 Contender.
I was like being smacked across the palm of the hand by an old fashioned gym shoe wielded by an old fashioned prep-school teacher (a man who enjoyed his work).
I declined the kind offer of a second shot.

Lloyd, Is your brother going to hang with us at LOW? I was going to try to arrive when the women folk had shoved off. Truly, looking forward to it. ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/yQ5grZc/IMG-0108.jpg) Best, Ted Not to sidetrack this thread, but please tell us more about that Darne, Ted. Thanks. I had my P-19 out on the skeet field last week. Drew a lot of comments. I think I own the only two Darnes at the club.

I had my P-19 out on the skeet field last week. Drew a lot of comments. I think I own the only two Darnes at the club. James Wayne era V19 20 gauge, that I traded into. Straight grip, V safety, swamped rib, 26” tubes, with IC and MOD chokes. It has exceptional wood for a James Wayne gun, which, usually doesn’t mean much, but, it was nice on this one. I got it at the very end of my attempting to shoot left handed era, and when I switched to right handed with the gun, I shot miserably with it. It was about 5 3/4 lbs, and even when I was at the top of my game, sub 6 lb guns gave me trouble. This one was no exception. A fairly regular poster here bought it from me, after asking my opinion of the mostly sh1t guns on the gun websites. His wife actually sent me a gift in thanks for selling him the gun. He loves it. I did too, but, simply couldn’t make it work. I have a very similar problem with a Stoeger era import 28 gauge V19 I own. I am going to try using it a bit, just a tad heavier than the 20, but, it has a game rib and a Demi-pistolet, and handles differently than the 20. The only other Darne on hand is a 12 gauge brute, a long barreled 2 1/2” chamber Halifax, weighs 6 1/2 lbs, IC and IMOD chokes with a straight stock, push button safety, that needs a recoil pad to get the LOP I need. I shoot pretty damn well with that one, a gun that was built 1920 or so. That V grade sliding safety on the left, that worked so well for me as a lefty, is a conundrum for me as a right handed shooter. The push button on the Halifax is wonderful, but, would have been trouble when I was a lefty. The two guns I shoot best with since waking up one day with one eye, are a Remington 1100 All Weather LT 20 gauge (plastic stock) and a 16 gauge Browning A5 Standard. I have been making inroads with a Beretta BL-3 20 gauge with 28” tubes and Mod and Full chokes, but, I’m not there yet. Both Darne guns pictured below, because, I can. I have a tough time admitting I own the two autoloaders, much less fessing up to shooting them well off the right shoulder. ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/pwk9pv9/IMG-2192.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/fk0K0HW/IMG-2461.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/4WSn47v/IMG-2335.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/dbXyjJb/IMG-0653.jpg) The 28 gauge was NIB when I bought it. Best of luck with your Darne guns. Best, Ted

Took Tucker out for a short outing to our favorite Blue Grouse covert, nadda, nothing, not even an unseen flush. We sure enjoyed our walk in the woods though.

Had a great dove hunt this year. It was a misty, foggy, low cloud daybreak with no sunrise in the NC piedmont. The birds began flying at 6:45am and picked up steadily until 7:30. From 7:30-8:30 it was Armageddon with 30 or so hunters blasting away for about an hour nonstop. Totaled 25 birds with my FIL by 9am and stopped shooting. Could have had our limit but we were contemplating the cleaning chore! Our field was the only one in the county that had cut silage, 4 days prior to opening day. I shot the 16 bore Horton & Sons somewhat unflatteringly photographed here as well as I have ever managed. 7/8 oz RST 7.5 oz loads were very potent our of IC/F chokes. Other dove hunters, let's hear your reports! ![[Linked Image from jpgbox.com]](https://www.jpgbox.com/jpg/73375_576x768.jpg)

Mike, The weather was unfavorable for pulling the Boss side lever out of its case this time! I am planning on using it in SD this October and if I have success with it, will post a picture.
