Eddie K,

There’s enough questions on this gun to proceed with extreme caution. The barrels look to have less bluing than the action has came coloring (was the gun recase colored)? As Tim says above, no drop points on the stock. Bushveld also gave you some advice for non-engraved sidelocks; they are difficult to resell.

Why are you interested in this particular gun?

Ken

If you magnify the side of the receiver it look's like the "J" is actually part of the right side of the "H". [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc] [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc] [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc] [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

Original proof 1904-1925 for 2 1/2" chamber with 1 1/8 oz. (not followed by Shot however)
Bore 13/1 = .719" - .728"
No reproof which would have been required if honed beyond .728"
Note the 'HHH' on the barrels

In 1925, the 2 1/2” 12g maximum service load was 3 Dr. Eq. with 1 1/8 oz. shot with a mean pressure of 3 1/4 tons by LUP = about 9,800 psi by Burrard’s conversion.

Not that I'm doubting you but where did you get the 9,800psi service pressure for a 2 1/2" 12g? The information I have found indicates that the 2 1/2" was 3 tons or 8,900ish and the 2 3/4" was 9,800.

eddie;

The photos of the action face and flats as well as the inside of the fore-end show very good condition. If the barrels are in proof and the bores of the barrels are in similar condition to the action (shiny bright and no marks pits with good wall thickness and so forth) then the gun is worth the price.

You are correct that under the 1954 Rules of Proof the “Highest Mean Service Pressure” equivalent transducer values as converted from LUP by Burrard’s formula for 3 tons = 8,960 psi = 618 BAR

"Confusing" is being generous.

Thanks for the info!
