a long time ago a gunsmith, I think on this site offered a glue on pad so you didn't have to mess up a checkered butt. Does anyone recall name etc?

Checkered butts are curved and have radiused edges. It seems a quality lace on pad would be a better solution.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

I do remember it well, Jeff. He contoured the pad so that it fit the butt well, and covered them with pigskin leather. They looked really nice. I have not seen nor heard of him in many, many years.
His niche was being able to add LOP with a nice looking leather covered pad without damaging the original checkered, or lined, butt. The deal was completely reversible, with a little work.
May God bless America and those who defend her.

I believe that the gentleman was named Peter Kougot(sp?) and that he stopped offering the service many years ago.

I have a couple (medium and large) Pachmyar butt pads.
If you pull hard on the Velcro securing tab they stay in place and avoid any harm to the original as long as you don’t store the gun with them .
If you do it can affect the stock finish.

Ted;
Thank you very much for posting Pete's obituary. What a wonderful well written tribute to him. It becomes abundantly clear as you read about Pete that he was the sort of person that you regret not knowing him personally and counted him as one of your friends. I hope that I will be able to meet him later on in the sunshine way way about the clouds.
Kindest Regards; Stephen Howell
