Sounds like you have a Winchester leather covered pad style 1 ,2or three the pad is more than likely not glued on, but the leather is .the Winchester pad is kind of unique the way they leather covered it. It was either a square edge , round edge or just a face, but that Leather is glued , youmay be able to peel it off and put it back on. That would be very difficult. I’ve never seen that done successfully. You can reapply piece of leather or just leave it alone after you do your alteration . I use to work at Winchester / USARA and then Connecticut Shotgun, I think if you show us a picture Can tell you exactly what it is and again you may be successful peeling it off carefully and putting it on, but I have never seen that happen
