I acquired an O/U combination gun built in Germany 1927 in 16ga and what was 8X57R. The rifle barrel has been fitted with a full length liner in what is supposed to be 5.6X50R. But it isn't marked with 5.6X50R. Attached are photos of the proofs. Of course I can't read German, so I don't understand the difference between Einstecklaub marked on the rifle barrel, and the word I'm used to seeing, which is Einstecklauf. Is this liner removable or permanently installed? I'm think the latter. Any input would be helpful. Photos: https://postimg.cc/gallery/XCyLX63

Well, first of all that isn't "Einstecklaub", it is "Einschublaue" and the translation I can find is "insert blue". If I have it correct, Einschu" is insert and I'm pretty sure "blaue" is blue. I don't get it and there's probably a better translation as relates to firearms. I have an Einstecklauf in 22 LR for 16 bore barrels so I'm going to assume they're similar words for the same thing. I believe Bohler - Rasant is the type of steel the barrel is made from. I also think the best way to know precisely what it is chambered for is to make a chamber cast.
I would think if it is removable there should be some evidence at the breech end showing screws for wedges that affix the insert to the barrel. If the liner is permanent at the muzzle you should be able to see where the barrel was drilled and the line between the barrel and liner. Also, at the breech it should appear as a normal chamber.
The rest of the proofs are the usual German proofs for the 8 X 57R and the date of proof, which should be May of 1927.
Take that for what it's worth. I expect, and hope, Mike, raimey or Axel will be along to correct any of my errors.
A picture of the breech and muzzle would be of help.

The words are (separated for clarity) Einschub-Lauf barrel liner, permanent Einsteck-Lauf insert barrel, removable

KUCHENREUTER in Bavaria Germany offer this:- Einschublauf in Kugellauf einlöten u. staatl. Beschuß Google translates as = Solder slide-in barrel into ball barrel and state proof Which actually means an insert barrel is slid into the rifled barrel and retained by solder then proof tested at the official Bavarian proof house.

Vol 423, fuhrmann and bavarianbrit are correct, an Einschublauf is either soldered or glued (epoxy) into the barrel which has been reamed to remove the rifling and the taper from the chamber to fit the liner. The 5.6X 50 R is a popular cartridge for hunting Roe (Reh)deer and was introduced in 1969, by DWM, at the request of F.W.Heym because they were having trouble with extraction of 222 Remington Mag (rimless) in their Mod 22S o/u Combination guns. Where legal, as in Alabama, the 5.6 will take whitetail with a careful shot placement, especially when handloaded with a 60 grain Nosler Partition bullet. Mike

What I find interesting is that the the 8X57R from 1927 is Guß-Stahl Krupp Essen whilst the insert is Böhler Rasant, if I read things correctly.
